  • Recent builds, issues with referenced vrmesh proxies

    Hi,

I usually reference in my vray proxy mesh and instance them around a master scene. With recent builds of V-Ray (all the way up 3.3 Stables) Sometimes after reopening a scene the instanced reference will disappear and there will be an icon of the "unknown maya" node in the outliner. I don't think this is a maya bug because if I revert back to the stable 3.1 build (20151221) this never happens. When I tried 3.3 Stable builds the bug was there.

With older nightlies and even way back to V-Ray 2.0 this was never an issue. Anyone else notice this?

We haven't noticed it, but there were a lot of changes in the proxies around the GPU cache implementation for the viewports so it's entirely possible that something broke. Can you give us some way to reproduce the issue or describe how to set things up in order to reproduce it here?

Also, which Maya version and which OS?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Maya 2016x64 (SP5 + Ext1) and W10.

I've managed to reproduce it. If you give me the FTP details I will be able to upload you a simple scene that shows the broken connection.

      It will make more sense once the scene is open but to reproduce the issue I did this;

      1) In master scene reference in the umbrella
      2) Instance the umbrella around
      3) Save scene
      4) CLose scene
      5) Open master scene again and instance one of the instanced umbrellas
      6) Save scene
      7) Close scene
8 ) Open scene and the nodes are corrupted.

THis doesn't happen in V-Ray 3.1 from december but all the recent builds this issue appears.

Is it working in the legacy viewport?

Also, does assigning a material to the instance fix the problem?

I uploaded a scene to the Chaos FTP. The Zip filename contains my real name and forum username to locate it.
In that scene the instanced umbrellas have corrupted with one of the Feb 3.3 builds. But make sure to hook up all the references in the Maya ASCII scene before opening.

Unfortunately not. I'm not sure it is entirely a viewport issue as the outliner shows that default "unknown node" icon that Maya does. In more complicated scenes I've had the instanced reference node containing the vrmesh object disappears entirely from the render and viewport. All that is left is a node in the outliner.

I did wonder if this was a Maya issue with referencing (wouldn't be the first time!!!) however it is entirely fixable by defaulting back to VRay 3.1 from December (the build just before xmas) and earlier builds.

This issue first started appearing in one of the 3.15 nightlies and is still present in the 3.3 builds.

Can you try with the next nightly build? It should fix the issue I think.

Thanks, I probably won't get to test until the weekend though.

Hi can any devs confirm this? I had a scene that worked perfectly using a build below in my signature.

Switched to 3.3 official release and had referenced proxy assets missing left right and centre on a production scene. Reverting back to 3.1 nightly fixed the issue

There seem to be issues with referenced proxies but we don't have a fix yet - still trying to track down the issue.

                          Best regards,

Thanks Vlado - I just wanted to make sure. I'll wait until it is fixed.

The original issue with the scene you give us should be fixed. I totally changed the logic there to not delete any nodes. It's possible to have another issue, but AFAIK, we don't have a way to reproduce it here.
