  • RT 3.3 Could not obtain a license (10060)

    Hi,

Currently I have SP1 on Maya 2014 and just installed the SP3 on Maya 2016.
Both regular render and RT work fine on Maya 2014 for SP1.
For SP3, the regular render works as normal but I couldn't use RT at all. Kept getting messages below.

    Code:
warning: DR request received from 127.0.01, but currently busy with 0.0.0.0
error: Could not obtain a license (10060)
    Closing DR session from 127.0.0.1
The license is hosted on a head node of network server.
    always curious...

Since those are two separate installations of vray, is there a chance that one does not have firewall permissions?
Are you using a registered vraySlave service for any of those?
Are there more than one vray processes running at the same time?

I am on Windows 7 x64. I ran the installation .exe file as an admin with Full installation type. The process went through and at the end I checked "Register V-Ray render as a service" to finish it.

In Windows Task Manager, I saw VRayMayaSpawner 2014 and VayMayaSpawner2016. Will kill the VRayMayaSpawner2014 help?

I need to run production jobs on Maya 2014 with V-Ray 3.1 and do some tests on Maya 2016 with SP3. I believe we have enough GUI licenses here.

10060 means there is no connection to the license server machine - either because the name of the machine is wrong, or some firewall is blocking the connection. And if one is working and the other is not, maybe there's something wrong with the setup of vray for 2016 (assuming it's the one not working). Try disabling firewalls and anti-virus applications (temporarily - if it works, it's a matter of adding an exception). Both spawners will by default use the same port, which means the first one available will pick up the RT request. If you're not using this machine as a DR slave, try unregistering the services (spawners) and then starting RT will launch a new process.

Let me know if any of this works.

I uninstall SP3 for Maya 2016 and re-install it without registering as a slave. Re-boot the Windows. And below is my firewall setting.

In Windows services, there is only VRayMayaSpawner 2014.

Still, regular render is fine, but RT is returning completely black with the same error message.

Can you disable Windows firewall just for a bit to see if it changes anything?

            Best regards,

Hey Vlado, I can't disable the firewall as it needs company IT admin right. On the other hand, RT is running fine on Maya 2014 (SP1) on the same Windows workstation. At home, Maya 2016 and SP3 that I installed couple days ago runs fine with regular render and RT. I wonder what happen to SP3 RT on Maya 2016 at work because the regular render runs just fine.

Other than firewall, is there any other reason that cause RT to hang? When I run RT, the VFB turns black with the vray console shows Preparing renderer....After I stop RT, the console will shows message after a while.....

Can you try unregistering the 2014 spawner and then try RT from 2016 again. If that doesn't work, can you try rendering a vrscene with the vray standalone that comes with the 2016 installation?

yolov, I unregistered the 2014 spawner and the RT in 2016 issue is still there. I ended up bringing my dongle from home to work...It's not ideal but for now I am able to render and do RT in both 2014 and 2016.

Since everything works fine at home it is definitely something wrong with work machine and this is most likely the firewall.

Would it possible to start V-Ray Standalone manually from the Start Menu > ChaosGroup > V-Ray for Maya 2016 and render a .vrscene exported from Maya using V-Ray Adv and V-Ray RT.

Standalone help is printed automatically once the application is launched but if you haven't used it before you could use the following commands to launch Adv and RT render.

                    ADV: vray -scenefile="c:\path_to_scene\scene.vrscene"
                    RT CPU: vray -scenefile="c:\path_to_scene\scene.vrscene" -rtengine=1

If you got any errors please make a screenshots and attach them for investigation.

Another useful test would be to uninstall both versions of V-Ray(from Maya 2014 and 2016), then install version 3.30.01 first on Maya 2016 then after some test are run on Maya 2014.
During installation make sure that Add Firewall Exception is checked, and Register V-Ray render slave as a service is unchecked.

Before installing the new version it is a good idea to uninstall V-Ray and remove all left over files if such exists, please check the manual bellow:
                    http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...ninstall+V-Ray

When installing V-Ray make sure that you are using windows account with administrative privileges or run the installer as administrator.

                      Svetlozar,

Thanks for getting back to me on this issue.

I followed the instruction and found error messages regarding to "old license server version". After uninstall and re-install SP3 for Maya 2016. In Maya 2016, ADV render is fine. For RT render, I got this error below.

It seems they all point to the same issue that has to do with the version of license server?

If that's the case, I am not sure if I can (or I should) go ahead to un-install the current license server, that is running on a head node on company server, and upgrade it to a newer version of license server as we are still using Maya 2014 and SP1 for production.

Any way to solve this without upgrading the license server? Also, I remember we did this when upgrading from 3.0 to SP1. Any particular reason we need to keep updating the license server for each SP release?

                      Best,
                      Jason

I'm afraid you'll have to update the license server; you don't have to update for every SP, but we do change the protocols from time to time.

                        Best regards,

okay....If I simply install the newer version of license server from SP3 distribution to overwrite the SP1 license server on the head node, will it break something? (assuming nothing is queued/rendering on the farm and no DR on any local machines)

That should work fine, when the new version is being installed it will automatically remove the old one.
Let us know if everything works fine after the updated.

Thanks Svetlozar. I'll talk to IT to learn a good timing to upgrade the license server on the head node.
