  • Error: line 1: Exception [module=1] : Rendering region. Help please!

    Hi,

I'm having some trouble getting a still image of a scene rendered. The seemed to be working about 3 days ago, then I populated some proxies in the scene (which render perfectly in their own MA files, and it still worked, then suddenly the error below appeared... Then it started magically working again yesterday, to then suddenly stop working again. I've been trying all morning to get it going but I can't seem to figure out the problem, would anybody know how to fix this error?

Maya seemed to show me this error whilst using Brute Force for primary and secondary GI, or when GI is off completely, then Maya will freeze up and die, but when using Irradiance Map and Light Cache Maya just seemed to freeze and crash immediately. Resolution of the render doesn't seem to have any effect...

I've just finished the scene I'm working on and need to get some stills out, but this is causing a headache now!

    Output window printout:

It seems something is causing a crash.

Would it be possible to send the scene for investigation to support@chaosgroup.com (they can give you a ftp access if the scene is big)?
What V-Ray for Maya version are you using?

Its not too big, about 25mb, I'll zip it up with the proxies and send it over. That would be amazing if you guys could take a look! Many thanks!

      I'm using Vray 3.30.01.

For anyone else who comes across this issue, Chaos got back to me with a workaround:

After some testing though, we have a workaround:

          - You can turn off "Cache bitmaps between renders"(Render Settings > Overrides > Rendering)
          - Set the "Max render threads" value to "0" (Render Settings > Overrides > Rendering)
          - or do both of these.
This worked perfectly for me, many thanks to Chaos for the help.

I've seen the generic rendering region error many times. Is the above solution a one off thing or is it used on a high number of these cases.
Always seemed like the error was scene related, but would have to spend time search&destroying till you found the culprit.

The error can be caused by different things. That's why the above solution will probably work only (mostly) for the specific scene.
If you have encountered the same problem, please contact our support so we can have a look at the scene and fix any bugs that there might be and/or possibly find a workaround for you.
