  • .vrscene not producing motion blur within Maya

    Hello,

We are expanding our studio to work on film as well as arch viz stills. We have decided to make the switch to Maya for the film work. We have a huge amount of assets in 3DS Max + Vray which we would like to be able to use in Maya.

We are currently working on streamlining our pipeline to allow assets to be quickly converted from Max+vray -> Maya+Vray.

As part of that we were hoping to be able to use .vrscenes imported into Maya.

The problem we are finding is that motion blur doesn't show up for these imported .vrscene objects. Is this the expected behaviour of them? Is it possible to export them in a certain way to give us motion blur?

    Many thanks,
    Nick.

If you're talking about motion blur enabled when the vrscene was exported - this will not work. All render settings from the .vrscene file will be ignored when it is imported into Maya and the ones from the actual Maya scene will be used.
If your vrscene has animation, it should produce motion blur when you import it in Maya and enable motion blur from the VRay render settings in Maya.
The only thing I've found that currently doesn't work and we need to improve if possible, is that you won't get motion blur from static vrscenes of which you animtate the translations after they're imported into Maya.
Does your scene fall into one of the cases above?

Yes unfortunately that is the problem we are having. For example, we have cars we are importing (we will be keeping the wheels static), and animating the cars moving within our scene.

This is fixed for today's nightly builds and will go into the next official release.

            Hello again,

We are having another problem where when we apply a vray properties node onto the .vrscene then the .vrscene isn't respecting any of the vray properties node attributes. Is this also something that could be fixed?

We are trying another method of getting assets from Max to Maya using an FBX for the geo and then a .vrscene for the materials however when importing the .vrscene for materials the reflection glossiness is coming in with incorrect values, it is always defaulting to 1.

This is not supported yet. We already have a feature request about it so it will be developed for future releases.

This is a known issue which is also into the system. Currently importing materials though .vrscene doesn't support all the parameters so you can expect some differences in the shader.

Thank you for the super fast response.

We are going to try exporting the shaders as VRmat files and see how we get on.
