  • SSS with intersecting objects

    Hi,
I am doing some research on SSS and came across a strange behaviour when rendering 2 intersecting objects which have the same VRayFastSSS2 shader applied.
When rendering with the CPU, there is a visible seam where the 2 objects intersect. When rendering with CUDA, the render looks like one object. When I bool the two objects together, the CPU render looks more like it is one object. The CUDA render looks pretty much the same but still quite different from the CPU render.

Are there some settings that I might have overlooked?

    Here are the different renders

I'm not sure the cause for the variation from CUDA and CPU but, if you set the Raytraced SSS ID in V-Ray properties on all your objects to the same ID it should render as if it is one object. Hope that helps!

Where can I find the "Raytraced SSS ID" attribute? I can find it in any Vray attribute or the V-RayObjectProperties.

I don't think we have that option in Maya. It's only available in 3ds max for the moment.

Any plans to add this feature?

This is now implemented with today's nightly builds and will go out with the next official release.
