  • Maya 2016 Ext2 SP1 + VRay 3.40.03 RT doesn't work anymore

    Hi,

    I just upgraded my Maya 2016 to Ext2 SP1 and VRay 3.40.03. Now RT doesn't work anymore. It used to work before with Maya 2016 SP6 Ext1 and VRay 3.30.02.
    I don't get any error message except the "No image writer specified" warning. Frame buffer stays black. VRay software (non-RT) works fine.

    What could be the problem?

    Does it work on a very simple scene with a few basic primitives and a light?
    Have you tried different RT engines, CPU, OpenCL,CUDA?
    Can you send us the log file from Maya's Output window?
    Are you able to render with OpenCL or CUDA with the Production Engine?

      Neither does RT work on a simple scene nor does it work with OpenCL or CUDA. Production Engine works fine with CPU, OpenCL and CUDA.

      I just found out that RT does work if I use distributed rendering and UNCHECK "Use local machine"

        That's very strange, we might need to run a remote session in order to figure out what's going on.
        Does V-Ray IPR work in the viewport? Does it work with the previous version 3.40.02?
        Would it be also possible to send us the log file from the Output Window and from Script Editor so we could check it just in case?

          Can you check for any error or warning reports printed in:
          * the maya script editor
          * the maya output window
          * the vray RT console output
          That might point us to what the problem is.

            I'm having a similar issue. I tried this on a simple scene with just a plane and a sphere. Basically a simple scene. I can do a normal render but any IPR session get stucks with just a black screen. Script Editor says: "The RT server process doesn't respond, quit waiting."

            Oddly enough if I enable DR> uncheck local it works totally fine. It seems to be specific to a local session.

            I'm running Maya 2017 Update 1 on OSX 10.11.6. I've tried both the most recent stable build as well as the most recent nightly.

            I also checked activity monitor and no other Vray processes running. CPU load is minimal suggesting no rendering process it taking place.

              What DR hosts do you pick up when you do DR + uncheck local - it should be in the DR settings window where you can see the list of hosts and what hosts are enabled/disabled?

                When I'm using DR I'm hooked up to one of my render slaves so that's the host I'm picking up if I understand the question right. That part makes sense to me. What I'm confused about is why my machine, which is distributing my license via dongle, can't do an RT session. I only tried hooking to a render slave after reading this thread. I was curious if at least one of my render slaves could do an IPR which apparently it can.

                  If you're comfortable with making a remote session and debugging on your machine, it would be the best and quickest way to find out what's wrong. Should you consider this option, please write to support@chaosgroup.com and reference this forum thread.
