  • Textures and displacements change when I reference them into a specific scene...

I have a rig with textures on it. It looks like this:

I had another version of the rig without textures on it. I had someone animate it; he referenced in the rig without textures. After he delivered me the scene, I referenced in the rig with the textures. It looks totally messed up though.

I thought perhaps the scale of the scene was off and it was messing up the displacement. So I turned the displacement to 0. Even then though the textures look totally off. Contrasty and too dark.

I have no idea why this is happening of how to fix it. I will say though, I had another animated scene and I referenced in the textured rig and it worked perfectly. But for some reason this scene isn't working right.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

I'm using vray 3.4 on maya 2016.5. The vray settings I'm using are a preset I used for the other scene that worked without any problems.

    Thanks!

Hmm, so the texture contrast could be caused by a few things. It might be also what's affecting the displacement. Without looking at the scene I can conclude a few things:

I had a bug with vray where if you use remap hsv node on a texture it looks fine in a main scene, but referenced in it breaks color into something washed out and dark (like your render). Do you have hsv nodes on your textures?

There could be also some maya color settings that are affecting the textures in that scene. Check maya's color space and that its not messing the textures with vray.

Lastly, for displacement could it be that the model was scaled post rig? that would surely affect the displacement.

      OK. Let's see.

No, there are no HSV nodes.

The color settings in vray are identical to another on that rendered properly. This is as I expected since I used a preset from the scene that rendered properly. You say maya color settings...am I missing something? Are there separate maya color settings or were you just referring to the vray color mapping setttings in the cray render settings window?

I do not believe the rig has been scaled. If I bring in the textured rig (a rig that worked when referenced into another scene) and compare it to the size of the untextured animated model that is in the scene now, the two models they are identical. It does not appear as if anything was scaled.

I guess maybe I should send you the scene for you to take a look at? There's only so much you can do without actually having the scene.

Is there a specific email I should send it to?

      Thanks!
