  • VrayBumpMtl with VrayDirt as bump shows object triangulation.

I've got a VrayDirt going into a VrayBumpMtl and it shows lines where the objects render triangulation is. I found another thread with a similar problem, and my bump shadows attribute is off for my VrayMtl and my VrayBumpMtl. I've tried just about everything I can.

Reducing my network down to just the VrayDirt going into the VrayBumpMtl leads me to believe its an issue with one of those two nodes.

Would it be possible to attach the scene for investigation?
Thank you very much in advance.

What are the versions of V-Ray and Maya, the scene render differently here with Maya 2016 and V-Ray 3.40.04.

            Maya 2017 with V-Ray 3.40.04

I attached a render of the scene as sent for comparision. The shader network is the same as the above attached image, I just messed with the settings for a bit before the file was sent, the issue remains in both images.

            Thanks again.

Should I mess with the Dirt or other nodes parameters in order to reproduce the issue?
I tried to modify Dirt parameters but still can't get similar result with the same V-Ray and Maya versions.

So you can render that exact image i posted above without the triangulation issue? I rendered that frame and saved the file to send you. weird

The issue happens any time I plug a vrayDirt into the bump slot of any shader, even a regular vrayMtl in addition to the vrayBumpMtl. Let me open the file here at work and check if it does it here.

It looks like my issue with bump shadow, same white line triangulation, but my problems was solved when im turning bump shadow off,

With or without the Bump Shadows option I cannot replicate that issue into our environment, the result looks like this:

Under what OS you are and what version.
Have you tried to reinstall V-Ray and see if the issue is still there?
Any change to run the same test on another Maya version like 2016 for example?

ok so, there is a fun bug in 2017 that deletes ramp points from the remapValue node on scene open or save, not sure... I figured it out when i opened the file at work.

Add a single black point to the far left of the remapValue ramp like so and you should get the identical render.

Were you able to reproduce the render after adding that ramp point back in?

I would love to make some nice chipped paint without baking out the dirt map first! Thanks for taking the time again.

Thank you for the update. We reproduced the issue and forwarded it to the developers for investigation (#VMAYA-5990).
As soon as we fix it we will let you know.
