  • Subdivision and OpenSubdiv Attributes - Preserve geometry borders

    Case:
If you have a plane and add "Subdivision Attributes" to the plane. (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...YA/Subdivision)

    Question:
How do you preserve geometry borders? (I know you can make hard edges to the geometry. But this doesn't give me 100% sharp edges.

Is this possible to do this with Subdivision Attributes? I know you can do it with OpenSubdiv Attributes (Osd Preserve geometry borders – specifies whether geometry borders are preserved or not).

I'm not sure about your case exactly without seeing a sample scene, however you can specify an edge using crease edge tool, then opensubdiv will recognize that and keep it sharp.

Imho the preserve geometry border should preserve edges of the geometry which are open, however it seems it does not.

We have no option to preserve geometry borders with V-Ray subdivision. You will have to use OpenSubdiv in that case.

...Thanks for the reply. And good to know.

In future releases i hope that Subdivision Attributes will be able to Preserve geometry borders. So it´s possible to take advantages of view-dependent rendering and Preserve geometry borders.

This we won't do, unfortunately. You'll have to use OpenSubdiv for that.
