There were a bunch of things you need to do to get it to work. I think you need to set your ptex set up resolution level to be at least twice the resolution you have now. Then once exported in vray you have to set a bunch of options. For example, you use normal displacement, but you need to either use vector absolute or object (depending on how you exported the ptex) In ptex you need to turn off filtering entirely. Also you need to set the displacement bounds to -10/10, so there is no clipping then it will work correctly. See attached

does work with your scene and object space...
does not work with absolute... but we need that for animation...

            hmm... strange...

Yeah what maya version are you on? When I opened your scene those settings were not set.

Regradless try uprez your ptex in mudbox and re export...

Set the "Displacement bounds" to "Explicit" and the Min value to something like RGB -10, -10, -10 and the Max value to RGB 10,10,10 and it should be better.

Other than that, see Dmitry's notes.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

V-Ray works just fine with object space and animation; just make sure the Ptex file contains mesh information.

So just use object space? Like I said, it will work fine with deformation.

                        Best regards,

there are a lot of artefacts all over if you take a closer look...
even in the example file from Morbid Angel...
object space is not the solution for a clean replica of the highress...

im not sure if the issue is caused by vray or mudbox itself...
