  • GI : splotches / official build v nightly

    Hi,

So I rendered out this scene in both the official release and vray_nightly_35501 build. I was wondering why i was getting so much blotchiness in the GI pass, when using the preset High, so reinstalled the official build and noticed it was better.

My scene is lit with a large HDR, so didnt want to attach it to this post. Also the nightly render was 1min quicker.

    Render settings

    Min sub 1
    Max sub 64
    Threshold 0.005
    GI preset High

    1st render (official release) on I7 4930k took 10m24
    2nd render (nightly 35501) took 9m14

That looks like Irradiance map splotches. Could you attach the scene?

When I need to send large files to support, I usually upload a zip file somewhere and share it by making a public link. Google Drive or Dropbox are usually great for this. I guess it should be possible to do with iCloud nowadays as well.

Despite its controversy, Mega has become my go-to cloud storage for these kinds of support cases, where you may need to send off several gigabytes of data. It comes with 50 GB storage for free. I'm not sure if I would trust them with high profile data (or personal data) though.

This service offers the same kind of service (maxes out at 2 GB) and requires no sign-up, but the link will expire after some time: https://sprend.com/

Yes, we have the scene and are looking into it. We will get back to you when we find out what's causing the splotches.

The issue is fixed in yesterday's nightly build ( 2017.01.24 ).

There was a bug which resulted in poor quality irradiance map samples.
The same bug also affected higher values for local subdivs and min shading rate, V-Ray would disregard them and take only a few samples instead.
