  • installation of VRay Nightly on linux

    Hi

    newbie question
I'm running CENTOS on my render nodes, and want to switch to a nightly release, however theres no executable install file like with the stabel releases or official builds. How do you install a nightly version of VRay?

We have an installer for Linux that works for CentOS too. It is in a zip file, just like the Windows installation - look for a zip file on our server that has "linux" in its name. From then on, just follow these steps: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...orMaya-Linux.2

Let me know if you still have troubles installing vray on Linux.

      Ok im definitely missing something.

I've downloaded this nightly build from the server - vray_adv_35701_maya2017_linux_x64_27195_zip.rar with zip in the name just like you said.

But the file only contains release notes, and source code file and the zip file with VRay itself, no executable file. If i unpack i just get the three folders - do i need to manually copy those to each linux node?

In the same nightly build for OSX theres a executable file in the .dmg file

        Ah, the zip.rar files
For each maya version and OS there are two downloadable archives - one is zip.rar, the other is just .rar - the simple .rar files have an executable installer, the zip.rar allows custom deployment of V-Ray.
Just look for the one that says for example vray_adv_35701_maya2017_linux_x64_27195.rar - it should be right next to the zip.rar
