shadows not correct on opensubdiv surface

  • shadows not correct on opensubdiv surface

    the shadows on my surface don't seems to match up to where they should be when opensubdiv is turned on.

    first image is off, second is on.

    It actually seems to do the same thing but not quite as bad with rounded corners on and opensubdiv off.

    did you lower the shadow bias value in the light?

      I did not know that was a thing... lowering it fixed it. Thank you very much. I still have much to learn.

      I'm used to ray-traced mental ray shadows etc. Didn't even think about that.

        sure! think of it as an optimization feature. On large, very large scenes where some objects can be very small, it can speed up rendering. Or if you don't care for that just set it to 0.001 and it will be always tracing every bit.

            There is no specific reason. Ideally it should be auto-determined in some way, but we haven't done it yet.
