  • Matte-Shadow IPR issues

    Hi folks,

there seems to be a bug with the matte shadows in 3.4.00.6. (maybe has to be moved to the IPR section?)

have a plane under a object and a light. Let the plane act as a shadow catcher. When ipr starts everything looks good, but soon as you move the light, the plane gets black
    and you have to restart.

    V-Ray for Maya version 3.40.06 from Nov 3 2016

    Thanks
    &
    Cheers

I can't seem to reproduce it here. Can you upload a screen shot or a screen capture?

        Hi Alex,

here is a scene for you.
        Do the following:

        1. Start an IPR render with the cam_dummy...
        2. There should be a shadow below the cylinder
        3. Move the vray light a bit
        4. the plane gets black (the object properties seem to not update for somehow...)
        5. grab the upper vertices of the cylinder and move them a bit
        6. Now everything works again
        7. repeat step 3.
        8. again black plane
        9. In the object properties toggle "affect alpha"
        10. now it updates correctly

This is the behaviour here at my machine

        Hope you get it reproduced

        Thanks

It's a bit hard to tell, your environment is black and the matte plane comes out black the first time. Other than that (with a non-black environment so I can see the shadows on the plane) I can't really reproduce it.
A screen capture could help me understand this a bit better.

Ah, got it. Turns out this is already fixed and you can get the fix with the next official release.

Btw, is there any particular reason you're using both the VFB and the maya render view together ?

                  Hi Alex,

I'm using the mayarenderview mostly to start IPR renders and to control the test resolution quickly. It's just compressed down tiny as a command window. I am not rendering to it.

Is the fix already included in the nightlies or will it be released with 3.5?

3.5 will come with a button to start IPR from the VFB. We also have a plan to have control for test resolution soon, but I don't know if that will make it to 3.5. But for quite some time we have supported the pause option from the render view (3.5 will also have a VFB button for it).
