  • Maya crashed with Cache bitmaps between renders enabled

    Hi,

I have a scene that was originally created in Maya 2014 and Vray 2.x. I open it up and rendered in Maya 2017 with Vray nightly (Standalone ver. 3.57.01 Build 27199). When I untick "Cache bitmaps between renders" (Render Settings>Overrides>Rendering), regular render and IPR run as normal. However, when I tick "Cache bitmaps between renders", the very 1st rendering runs normally. But Maya crashes every time after I hit stop and hit render again (essentially the 2nd time trying to render after open the scene).

If I assign a default VrayMtl to all scene geos and render with the "Cache bitmaps between renders" ticked, Maya doesn't crash.

I can upload all assets including textures if necessary. The archived project is about 900MB.

    Thanks,
    Jason

                Hi Tashko,

Before I go ahead and generate the crash dump file, can I confirm with you that it's the "2nd time" you try to render the scene with "Cache bitmps between renders" enabled?

As I mentioned in the first post, when I open the scene, make sure the "Cache bitmaps between renders" is enabled, and hit render. It is totally fine. So, the very first render is good.
But if I now hit the render again, Maya crashes.

                Thanks,
                Jason

Yes, exactly. I can confirm that the option is enabled and after 3-4 renders on 2 different machines here there wasn't any crashes. Let me try once again.

This will be fixed in tomorrow's nightly build. The fix will also be included in our next release.

That's great! Thanks Mihail. I don't have to worry about converting those ptex to uv maps then.
