  • Distributed Rendering Problems vray_adv_35701_maya2017_x64_27260

    Hello,

    we have a problem with distributed rendering.
    We are using Maya2017 (Update3) + vray_adv_35701_maya2017_x64_27260
    Vray is installed in a network share.

    The clients load the vray.exe @ startup via batch command

    --------
    ::set variables for vray.exe renderslave::
    set VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH=\\metaserver\comp\Global\Maya\vra y_builds\maya2017

    set MAYA_RENDER_DESC_PATH=%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\maya_root \bin\rendererDesc
    set VRAY_AUTH_CLIENT_FILE_PATH=\\metaserver\comp\Globa l\Maya\vray_builds
    set VRAY_PLUGINS_x64=%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\maya_vray\vray plugins
    set VRAY_OSL_PATH_MAYA2017x64=%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\vray\ opensl
    set VRAY_FOR_MAYA2017_MAIN_x64=%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\maya _vray
    set VRAY_FOR_MAYA2017_PLUGINS_x64=%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\m aya_vray\vrayplugins
    set PATH=%PATH%;%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\maya_root\bin;%VRAY _PLUGIN_PATH%\maya_vray\bin;%VRAY_PLUGIN_PATH%\vra y\bin

    ::start vray.exe renderslave::
    \\metaserver\comp\Global\Maya\vray_builds\maya2017 \maya_vray\bin\vray.exe -server -portNumber=20207
    --------

    In the past this worked like a charm, but for a few weeks now (not sure if it´s related to our 3.5 nightly upgrade) some machines go rogue completing their buckets and filling them with black in seconds (DR Bucket pass does not show the clients name in this case)
    This occurs randomly and we can´t really find out what´s causing the problem.
    Sometimes it happens after stopping a distributed rendering and restarting it, but again we don´t know why and how this happens.

    There are some errors in the slaves shell like:

    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:27] Starting DR session from 192.168.142.100
    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:27] Receiving DR scene from 192.168.142.100

    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:50] error: Error in file "", line 0: No file "C:\Users\render\AppData\Local\Temp" exists
    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:50] Starting render sequence.

    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:50] Using full light evaluation
    [2017/Mar/16|14:07:50] Distributed light cache is enabled

    any ideas what might cause the problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Is there a chance that there's other installations of vray on the machine where you're trying to run the slave?
    Can you check what %PATH% contains before setting it with the batch script?

      Hello Alex,

      this happens on fresh installed machines as well as on machines which are running for some time now.
      Vray has never been installed to any of those machines, as we solely use the network installation.
      There´s no vray variable set in the Path (checked a machine which recently didn´t work as expected)

        We'll look into that.

          Hi, we're aware of that issue and it's in our to do list. I'll update the thread as soon as it's fixed.
