  • VrayTriPlanar and Deforming Mesh

    Hi,

    We're using the VrayTriplanar in Maya on some deforming meshes but are having issues with the texture sliding, we've tried creating a Texture Reference but this hasn't resolved it. I've also seen other posts on here about it but not a resolution, is it possible to get this working on deforming mesh or are we just doing something wrong?
    I've attached screenshots and a Maya file illustrating what I mean.

    No thoughts on this? We really want to use the VRay TriPlanar but if it can't handle deforming mesh we're going to have to try something else, this is something that seems to work in both Arnold and Redshift but not in VRay.

      This is fixed for the next nightly build tomorrow (will post here the build number when it's out); if you don't have access to the nightly builds, please email support@chaosgroup.com and include a reference to this thread.

        The fix is in nightly build 27392 from May 9 (or later).

          That's great! Thanks for resolving this so quickly, the lead has switched to Maya TriPlanar for the time being but he'll be happy to know we can get the VRay one working again.

            Hi,

            I've accessed the dailies now to see if we can get this working but when we've tried to render the scene I sent through the geometry is still sliding through the texture. We downloaded build 27470 of Vray 3.5 (I couldn't see the 27392 build). Is there something you've done differently in the file to make it work? Can we get a file where it does work to understand if we're doing something wrong?

              Try the 3.6 builds. The 3.5 won't have the fix, sorry - I should have mentioned that earlier.

                I'm having similar issues with Alembic animations of RBD sims from Houdini.

                Would you be able to use the rest attribute from Houdini?

                  I have to try that. Normally you can use a rest attribute by adding V-Ray attributes to the 3d placement nodes of your textures and specifying the name of the rest attribute there. However the triplanar texture needs the rest normals, not the positions, so not quite sure how that will work.
