  • Fatal error clearing key frames in Maya 2017 Vray 3.5

Every once in a while (I haven't been able to track down what causes it), Vray fatal errors and says "fatal error clearing key frames". The scene is very simple with only 2 keyframes to change camera position.

If I save the scene and re-open it gives the same error and will not render.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I couldn't find anything on google.

    Further info:

When I re open the scene, it still gives the error, but if I close maya completely and the re-open everything renders fine.

Do you have geometry caching enabled in the Render settings?
What is the exact build you're using?
Can you give us a crash dump?

        Thanks for the response!
I do not have geometry caching enabled.
        Plugin version: 3.52.01
I pulled a crash dump from around the date I was experiencing it, but I'm not 100% sure if this dump was caused by the issue or not. I'll try to replicate the crash and send you an updated dump file if it happens again. MayaCrashLog170513.1232.zip

The particular crash in the dump is from a material swatch render. Does disabling the swatch rendering fix it? Either way, what would be a way for us to reproduce the issue?

Another question: do you remember if there were any VRayWrapperMtl materials in any of the swatches?

            Best regards,

There was a VrayWrapperMtl in that scene, but I just experienced this problem in another scene that did not have the wrapper material. I looked into the temp files, but there was no dump file for this crash, but there was a log file that has the the error reported. I have attached it here. I'm not sure if it will help. I'll keep a look out for a dump file if I experience this problem again. I will try to disable the swatch render and see if that helps, I have not tried that yet.

I just experienced the problem again and this time it created a dump file. I've attached it here.

                  Currently I'm investigating your problem.
As far as I can see the crash occurs while IPR starts, is it right after another IPR session?
Do you use third party plugins in the scene ? And if yes which ones ?

                  Best,
                  Alex

It seems to happen when I am using IPR, stop it, make some material changes and then start the IPR again. I am not using any third party plugins, I believe. I think everything is native vray. I think in this particular scene I was using nhair, but I've experience the problem in other scenes where I wasn't using nHar.

                      I'm stuck with this.
Can you try with 3.52.03 ? We fixed some bugs with in-process IPR between those 2 version.

                      Best,
                      Alex

                        Hello,
We're getting that same "Fatal error clearing key frames" message. We are rendering a PhoenixFD smoke simulation with V-Ray for Maya. I'm attaching a scene: if you go Render Settings>Animation and set "Common>Animation>Render animation only in batch? to OFF then render with V-Ray into the Render View you should see the error.
                        Thanks.

                          Hi,
I'll take a look and check if I can crash it on my end. I'll get back to you as soon as I have some more info.
Thanks for the scene and for the feedback.

I'm not able to reproduce the crash. Is it possible to share a few frames of the phoenix simulation and the Maya, V-Ray and Phoenix versions that you use?

                              Hello.
It doesn't crash. It just gives the "Fatal error clearing frames" message and stops. Here is the workflow I am using:
                              1. Maya 2016.5
                              2. Open the scene file 2059b.ma
                              3. Render Settings
                              4. Set renderer to V-Ray
                              5. Toggle Common>Animation>Render animation only in batch to OFF
                              6. Open Mayas Render View and render
                                > Get errors in the Maya Script Editor that say "Fatal error clearing frames".

We are using Maya 2016 Extension 2 SP 2. PhoenixFD version 3.04.01. V-Ray for Maya version 3.40.03.
We're trying to get Maya 2018 with VRay 3.60.02 and PhoenixFD up to see if its a fixed issue.

                              I've included two screenshots:
2059a.jog: what the interactive simulation looks like in the viewport. It works.
2059b.jpg: what happens when you render to the Render View. It seems to render the first frame and you get the keyframe error.

                              Thanks.
