  • Environment reflection override.

ok..so...I have a scene with default plane and sphere...sphere with a reflective vraymtl on it.

I add a vraydome light with mapped Hrdi, and a rect light. I use the same hrdi and map it to the reflection environmental override.

If hide both lights and render it should be black, but its like the maya default light kicks in and you can see the object. If you remove the override it goes black as you would expect.

Now, if I unhide the domelight but set its intensity to zero, the render is black....if i do the same with the rect light,( hiding the dome light) setting its intensity to zero, the object renders.

    So something is screwy...

    I've attached a scene

    thanks

I'm using maya 2017 update 4 (ha) and latest official vray build.

    Hi,

I don't see any issues with this scenario. What you get in the first setup with Dome light hidden is only the Env. reflection on the Sphere geometry. You can check and see that the Lighting pass is empty in this case.
Enabling the Dome light with zero intensity makes the Sphere reflecting the "Black" dome sphere/light. What I can suggest is to untick Affect Reflections from the Dome light options to see the Override Env in reflections again.

thanks for the quick reply, i think i have a fundamental misunderstanding of the RGB color pass in VFB, I just presumed that if there's no light in the scene, I would expect as a default beauty pass...no light.
