  • vray frame buffer History crashes maya if i try to activate it

    Hi,
If I try to activate the History ("H") at the bottom of the frame buffer maya just freezes up... i suspect it might be struggling with a change round of my SSD and HDD on my system.. ive tried uninstall and reinstall but this hasn't worked .. what can i do ?

It might be a wrong VFB History path for saving the history files, but it didn't crash/freeze on our end when we tried replicating it. Could you try and delete the following file(s): vrayvfb.xml and/or vrayvfbuser.xml in My Documents\maya. Please make a copy of those, because if this fixes it, I'd like to ask you to send the copies to us so we can try and figure out if there was something wrong with the setup.

      thanks for your reply Alex,
i deleted the files you suggested, well, i just renamed them to vrayvfb.xml_old and vrayvfbuser.xml_old, it took a few goes to set the directory to another drive but it seems to be working again !
      thanks so much !

I had to use a fresh/new folder for the "History Directory" , couldn't use the one i was using before ( it has some .vrimg images still in it ) , if i tried to use the old folder then maya would just freeze up.
I noticed that 3DMax users have a converter to convert vrimg to exr , is there a possibility for Maya users to have access to the program please?

      thanks again !

That really is weird. Next time it freezes, before you quit maya, could you go to you task manager, right-click the maya process and select "create dump file". Then send us the dump file, it should be in your user's temp folder (type %temp% in your your file explorer) and let us know the vray version and build number.

            The xml files seem fine.
The vrimg2exr tool comes with the maya installation too, so you can use it to convert vrimg to exr files. Here's more info on it: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...+EXR+Converter

If you change your VFB history folder, you can just copy over whatever .vrimg you have from your old folder to the new one, the VFB will then load them up in the history for you.
