  • Problem with VRayMtl2Sided when VRayDisplacement applied in Maya

    Hi,

I have a group of objects (flower petals so no volume, just planes) working well with a Translucent Two-Sided Material VRayMtl2Sided applied to each.

I've setup Geometry Displacement using VRayDisplacement on each petal.

All is fine apart from the translucency; it seems to be removed when using VRayDisplacement on an object with VRayMtl2Sided applied.

Setting Displacement Amount to 0.0 (under Extra VRay Attributes > Displacement control) makes no difference.

The render only looks as it did prior to VRayDisplacement being added when displacement is turned off via the None checkbox (the first checkbox under Extra VRay Attributes > Displacement control).

I need to animate the displacement over time (starting with no displacement), and retain the translucency of the petals.

Hopefully someone can help with this? I'm not sure if it's a bug or something I'm missing?

    I'm running Maya 2017 Update 4 with V-Ray 3.52.03

Translucent seems to work fine with VRay2sided shader on a simple test. Can you attach an example scene?

Many thanks for the reply, I sent an example scene over to your support team who are looking into it. I'll update the thread once they've come back.

In case anyone else comes across the same it's a bug which Chaos plans to fix in due course.

As a temporary workaround they've advised switching from 'Irradiance Map and Light Cache' to 'Brute Force and Light Cache' and disabling the Velocity Render Element overcomes it.
