  • The background does not return zero in the zDepth element of V-Ray 3.60.

The background does not return zero in the zDepth element of V-Ray 3.60.

There is no problem with V-Ray 3.50.
(Regardless of whether filtering is enabled or disabled)

    Please check and fix it.

In addition, is there a way for the background to return zero with 3ds Max zDepth?
(Regardless of whether filtering is enabled or disabled)

    NOTE:
I know to use SampleterInfo Elements.[Cam Pos]
However, here is the solution with the zDepth element.

    Thanx

We did some changes with 3.60: zero was always returned in all cases for the zDepth "background" regardless of whether white is the background color or not or whether zDepth is clamped or not. This was the behavior before 3.60, but was not entirely correct.
With 3.60 when the background color is white, the pixel value will be infinite, when Depth Clamp is disabled and it will be 1.0 when clamped. Respectively - it will be 0 when the background is black and zdepth is clamped and minus infinity when not clamped.
This however turned out to again be a non-ideal solution, so the devs are looking into a more suitable representation of the values in that channel.

You will have to clamp the zdepth to get a finite value of 1.0 (when far color = white) or 0.0 (when far color = black) with 3.60.

Hope this info helps. We'll update the information when the devs have come to a solution for this. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

        Thank you for information.
There is an inconvenience because it becomes 1.0 or less when using zdepth clamp.

We look forward to the update.

From what I can tell, for 3.60.03, which we'll release soon, the backrgound (infinity) color will always be 0, so this should be working again once the builds are officially out.
