  • Img2tiledexr not creating grey scale images correctly?

    Hi,

I'm optimising some heavy scenes, I'm converting all textures over to tiled EXRs via the img2tiledexr on OSX VRay 3.6

Any textures that are going in grayscale that might have RGB channels gloss etc, I'm using the -grayscale tag.

If I load the resulting EXR into nuke I can see the file still includes a RGB channels.

From the documentation this sounds wrong? or is this expected behaviour.

    Any ideas.

    Cheers,
    David.

It's not exactly expected. What file format was the texture in?

    Best regards,

I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Initially I was trying out TIF files. I then just try some random jpgs and png files to see if the results were the same. Which they were, images made grey scale but included the same data in the RGB channels.

I've made some tests and everything seems ok. I think Nuke by default is filling those channels with the info from the Y channel. There are tools that can print image info (I used "exiftool"), you can check your exrs just in case.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done
