  • Shadow catcher errors with tiled exr ?

I have a material wrapper texture i'm using as a shadow catcher, but the objects need to still reflect the texture that is on the base (a road) so making a blank textureless material that feeds into the material wrapper is not an option. The issue i'm having is in the attached image.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Can you share a scene, or at least the portion that produces the problem so we can have a look? I couldn't replicate it here and by the looks of it there's a spherical camera that's used, but I also want to check other things in the scene like the material setup, what the textures are etc.

I just sent you a private message with a sample file that should show the problem.

Thanks, got the files. I don't really get the problem on my end, though. I can see that the scene uses 3.60.04, but got a clean render.
Did you use DR when this happened?

Nope, not using DR. All our farm nodes produce this as well so it's not a single computer that is the culprit. Are you using maya 2018 or 2017 ?

I think I tried them both - 2018 with the latest builds and 2017 with the build you were using.
            I'll give it another go.

Is the same error present in the beta of V-Ray Next?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

I don't have the beta installed and would prefer not to mid project.

OK, we finally got it. It's a combination of a lot of things: the large camera FOV, the combination of a sun and dome lights, light cache and adaptive lights and the matte object. Even removing the texture from the matte object's base material produces artifacts, although not visible in your case.
Until we fix the problem, you could disable the adaptive lights to get rid of the artifacts from render settings > overrides tab > lighting > light evaluation = full.
I've logged VMAYA-7907 for this issue, you can refer to this tracking number in the future to get updates on our progress.
