If spoken to fast. In the latest version the roughness is working like expected.
There is only some difference in the normalmap.

Im not sure if Vray does take the same tangent space as maya does.
Maya does have weighted tangents. That means if eges are closer together the get more weight.
You cant turn that off to see the difference. But be warned maya does bake those info into the mesh. Do that just for debug.!
3D Max does not do that for example.
Preferences --> Modeling --> Polygons --> Vertex Normal Method.
As you can see in the Maya Viewport it does look fine. Vray does have troubles in areas with 90° inward edges that are smooth on the mesh.

Yes, there is something wrong, but I can't tell what it is for sure. I'll need the developers to looking into this.
