  • Framebuffer colour corrections to work with render overrides

Something that would be amazing is to have framebuffer controls work with render overrides. For example, if I match black levels for my render to the backplate with a curve in VFB, I want that in my beauty. I dont want that in passes where I need to render on pure black. Is this something that can be done so we have full render layer control over which VFB colour tools apply to certain renders?

      Hey, thanks for posting.
I'll make a note to look into this.

Note that it may take quite a while to develop this and we'll definitely consider it.

Yeh I totally understand, and its probably very much not considered the ideal workflow. In a perfect world the VFB layers would be for preview only and all that colour work would be done in post. Sometimes its a lot easier to hand over a "what you see is what you get" render, and when doing cars, I often find the shots go better when Ive dialed the render into the backplate as close as possible, and baked all of that into the render. So when I hand over a car to a retoucher, the black point is correct, the white balance is baked in, and Ive matched the contrast and exposure with the tools in the VFB. That means the retoucher can work as if theyve been handed an image from a photographer and dont need to worry about matching the raw cg to the backplate. In this workflow, though, I still need certain passes that need screening on, so need to be rendered on black, or maybe need exposing up or down, and its easiest to use the VFB tools for this.

If I batch render, I stuck with one VFB setup, and cant have different settings for different render layers. If I could itd be incredibly powerful I think. Like I said though, its probably not the intended workflow, and is maybe even a niche workflow.
