  • A production render settings tool

One thing I always get caught out on (youd think Id manage t catch it if its always a problem...) is something like the VFB settings being set to 50% before I set off a bunch of renders. Something I asked the devs at a previous studio to come up with was a "production render checker" for the scene. Basically you can flag certain render settings you want this tool to check before it lets you render, so it can catch anything you might have set while you were testing.

An example would be, turning displacement off while you test something that doesn't have displacement, or setting DOF off while testing. The amount of times Ive left one thing off that needed to be on....

Its perhaps something I should look into myself, so Im more just thinking out loud, but something like this would have saved me so many times. We were going to make it a sort of traffic light UI where itd flash green next to setting you highlighted to be checked and were all good, and would flag red something that doesnt match your predefined production render settings.

You can easily write a quick mel script that sets the production settings for you, which you configure and another script that does the opposite. When working you can uncheck any option, but then the production render script would check back anything that's needed. It would be 2 shelf buttons, it should be easy to do that.
