  • Material override option in a Vray Object Properties node

Not sure if this is functionally possible using this method, but it'd be really useful if I could create groups / sets and be able to assign a shader to that...like being able to assign a shader to an object properties, but keep all of the geometry level shader connections in tact. Basically having the same shader ovveride control results you get if you make a collection on a render layer, but this would be nicer having more control on a group without having to use render layers.

Would it be possible to do this using vray extra attributes on group nodes? I have tried but didnt get any results.

The only way I can think of to get anything close, is to either setup render layers, or to setup a switch shader in every scene material, so you have the base / hero shader, and something to switch to, like a clay or diagnostic shader of some kind.

Hi, thanks for posting. Other users have previously asked for this feature and we have it logged in our system (VMAYA-12636). I will add your thread to it and raise the priority.
Here is the older thread about override material in V-Ray for Maya.

Indeed, it would be nice to have an easy and friendly feature like this one day.
