  • Vray cross platform shader exchange

    Hi,

would it be possible to have some sort of Vray compatibility between platforms (Maya, Max, C4D, Rhino, etc) to be able to exchange shaders among different users who use different platforms ?
I think it's possible through a vrscene, but i didn't test it and don't know how handy it could be...

    Any thoughts ?

I think Paul Dryzen is getting nearer to a solution for this....maybe i'll join the team and we will release a script for doing this in the future (means not too soon). But that will only work one-way....from max to maya

yes, that would be alredy great, but wouldn't it be usefull for some of us to be able to exchange across more platforms ? at least it's vray, it should be possible....

It is possible, but right now I have too many things to finish, before I can start a real test. But I´m on it.
The workflow I was thinking about is quite easy, or at least it sounds easy.
I´m not familiar with max and vray but I´ve tested a bit.
If you wan´t to export a material from max to maya do this. Just export a sphere with the material out of 3D Max into a *.vrscene. Now open this scene with the "Import Material from File" dialog in Maya.
Choose the material and import it into Maya. This should work in most cases.
Maybe it will work in the other direction too. I don´t know that for sure...
        Greetings Paul
