  • reflection sets

Just a wishlist thought, in renderman there is a concept of reflection sets, where basically can group objects to reflect (or not reflect) in specific surfaces. Sort of like light linking for reflections.

They are very useful, for instance, I want my car to reflect my env and rectangle lights, but I want the floor that the car is on to only reflect the car, and not the env and rectangle lights.

Maybe its possible already as it seems I figure out a new feature every day.

    thanks

So far we do not have such an option, but we will consider your request.
This effect can be achieved either by using copies of the lights you have in your scene. For example: one set to affect only the floor and its Diffuse color and one that affect everything else. Or use V-Ray render elements and set your final image in composting software.

i think he means reflection linking on/off. so that it is possible to exclude an object(or group of objects) to not reflect in a certain other object ( or object group), not only for lights.
this would indeed be very usefull not only for lights.

thanks, that is exactly what I mean. I don't know if its possible with a full on ray tracer... but somehow PRMan manages to do it (with Ray Tracing)

It's probably the only thing I really miss about PRMan

For your case specifically, it is enough to exclude the floor from the light sets of the area lights; then they won't appear reflected on the floor either.
