  • VRayFastSSS2 for Fly-through ?

    Hi,
I have a question : i have static objects with SSS (and static lights), it is possible to calculate one time the SSS and reuse it for all other frames ?

    Thank you.

With the latest nightly builds, you can do that, although some hacks are required.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Can we save the "SSS prepass" on a file to reuse it on a render farm with multiple computers ?

Yes, you can save it... but you'd need to set up the fastsss2 shader from the Python callback, as you guessed. BTW is anything animated in the scene?

No, SSS is on statics objects.

            Hi Vlado,
I need this for my project. All in my scene is static.
The VRayMtlSSS2 is in raytraced solid mode, so it takes a lot of time.
Can you give me the Python callback command to set up this please ?
I can win a lot of time with this.

            Thank you very much.

The general idea is this. The BRDFSSS2Complex plugin for V-Ray has a prepass_mode parameter and a prepass_fileName parameter. They allow you to save the illumination map for the sss2 material to disk and then reuse it. For the moment, the maps are per-frame though - I'm now tinkering with this too see if I can get fly-through static maps for the next nightly build tomorrow.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Yeah ! So, i will win time for the prepass !
I use the SSS in raytraced solid mode, i like the result, but i have big render time. I don't know if we can save the "computation", because the prepass is more faster than the "render".
