    In 3ds Max, this functionality is implemented by 3ds Max itself, not by V-Ray; it is on the "to do" list to implement it for V-Ray for Maya, and I hope we'll get to it soon.

        We would also love to have a command line option to only render frames that does not already exist.
        For example the maya renderer allows it like this :
        render -r sw -rep 1 myScene.mb

        It's very useful in several cases :
        1 : You render 1000 frames, 34 frames crashes (size zero, you delete them).
        Instead of filling the holes manually, you just render everything with a "Skip existing" option.
        2 : You render a long sequence, with a step of 10 (to quickly check the shot), then you need to render the full sequence, but you want to keep the frames that are already rendered.

        Do you think it will be available soon ?
