  • Visualisation of IDs for multimattes

    Hi!

One thing I was always missing in vray is a way to visualize your IDs for the multimattes in the viewport in some way. Like an checkbox in the RE, where I can enable/disable the preview. If it's enabled it overrides the viewport shading (like the 'Use default material' toggle.) Or maybe there's an even better way, dunno. We try to apply IDs only with objectProperties to keep things clean, but from time to time you get scenes where the IDs are applied to the objects or groups itself.

Of course I can do a preview render, but some kind of interactivity in the viewport would be nice.

    Thanks a lot!

We have a script which changes the id of the select object and the wire colour too, so if you set them all to grey before starting and switch the display to 'object colour' instead of materials you can see exactly what you've got and where. It's not mine to share, but if you have anyone who could write one it's probably your best option.

edit: sorry, didnt realise this was maya, probably disregard this.

Well, we could easily apply this to maya. We just need to connect the objectID to the colorIndex of the drawing override of the object. Nice Maybe I'll give it a try when there's more time.
