      It basically disables selected texture, for example if Im rendering a few textures inside a shader, if you right click on the connected flag and select "ignore when rendering" this texture will not be rendered, I suppose it should default to just black or default color.
      Its useful when you are creating custom stuff, or just checking (like in my case) if I am checking how the reflection is working in the shader, I have to unplug the diffuse/diffuse amount textures each time.
