  • Any plan to support OpenVDB?

We where discussing about this with colleagues so I just ask:

OpenVDB is a cool way to export fluid from Houdini and render them directly in VRay would avoid the need to use Mantra (and so, all the aliasing/displacement problems you could have).

Some high end renderer support it (Renderman/Arnold from what I know) and it has been used in some CG movies (Croods, Rise of the Guardians).

Is there any plan to support a OpenVDB containers in Vray?

    Regards,

    Dorian

Volumetric interchange format is really needed. We want to add such support both for VRay and Phoenix FD. However these libraries carry a lot of baggage (i.e. require other libraries, need to be built in a particular way, may not have good support for each OS, etc...). We will probably first look at Field3D since it's more matured and we are already using the libraries it needs.

+1 for OpenVDB .... field3d is mature...yes....but is already becoming obsolete in most production pipelines!!!
