Yep, it's on the "to do" list.

Ahh finally! Been looking forward to this for years!

Looks as if it may play nice with vray already since it utilizes alembic caches

It will be nice to have more than two options for hair in maya!

Any updates on this now that Maya 2014.5 is out with xgen? Is there an approximate ETA?

At the moment the ETA is : when it is ready.
It is quite complex task and it'll probably take quite a lot of time to implement.

Aw, I wouldn't be so pessimistic an initial implementation can probably be done relatively quickly. We'll see.

I spent some time today with the tool. Very impressive.
I've been excited for XGen for a couple years. Glad to hear vlado is excited about it too

In the mean time, I'm wondering if we can run the guide curve cache through nHair to get something working. It's just that nHair is very very slow.

you could try to use those created curves to use them as folicle for a maya hair system...
in xGen --> Preview/Output --> Output Settings --> operation -> Create Mel File

drag and drop those created mel into a new scene...

would it be something you could officially announce then when it's ready? For example in the vray newsletter?

So does this mean that it would generate the guides as nurbs curves? I have a write up on converting curves to nhair here: http://sharktacos.com/Forums/misc.ph...on=help&hid=30

the issue would be the resulting interpolation of hair clumps between the curves-- which nhair does not do so well.

no the hairs itself... one curve is one hair...

OH WOW! i just played a little with this, and it's amazing!!! can't even remember when I have been that excited about a new feature in maya (if ever). this might actually be the coolest thing that was ever built into it. So here is a +1 to get that implemented into vray because with mentalray this is no good.

                              Cheers,

                              Ronny
