  • Better and easier installation documentation for MacOS

    Hi,
all my life i've used v-ray in windows os and the licensing was never an issued,
now i'm working on mac and it was a terrible experience.

I'm not a mac power user, but even so it should be simple.

The pdf provided isn't clear enough to me, and i installed thing based on what I know on a windows side.

Got it to work, but wasn't straight forward as windows versions are .

Really love windows having apps with UI for everything.

    Thanks

Thank you very much for the feedback - I think we already have a good documentation about Mac instalation but it seams you have different opinion.
Could you please share with us on what part of the installation process you had difficulties, and what should be improved into the documentation in order to make the installation process easier ?

Thank you very much in advance.

      Hi Svetlozar,
stuff like "sudo /Applications/Autodesk/maya8.5/Maya.app/Contents/vray/vrlserver.exe" didn't make sense to me.
I couldn find any exe on mac...
I run normally the program, using terminal. And seeing what option did it give me. On the manual there's no reference how to install the normal licence system using the ip of where the Wibukey installed.
Read about it on http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help...ensingvray.htm but even here didnt get all my answer, but after some trial and error i got it to work. Just think the windows version is easier for installing a configuring licenses.

      Thanks

        Hello again,

Could you please let us know which version of Vray for Maya you are using ?
The information on our help-page is a little bit outdated because it is for older Vray versions - every newer Vray installations comes with updated documentation which is included into every build.
With the latest version both Vray-installation and License-server-installation even have Graphic User Interface so you don't have to type any commands into the Terminal.

The only exception is when the dongle is plugged on a network machine - then you have to configure the license server to access network-machine and this is done via the following command in Terminal:

        Code:
        /Applications/Autodesk/maya2013/vray/bin/setvrlservice -server=[server name or IP] -port=30304
... which is also included into the installation document (2.40.01) under "Specifying the location of the license server" title.

I agree that the windows-installation is easier that the Mac-one but this is because Windows-OS is more user-friendly than Mac according to my opinion.

Eh, let us not go there We are mere software developers here, who are we to say what is more friendly for the users...
