  • Texture Switch Similar to switchMaterial

I would love to have a texture switch node similar to the switchMTL.... almost the exact same implementation but with switching textures vs materials. This would help in many procedural setups. Right now I have to use condition nodes and stuff... I could use the vrayString variable to switch which works nicely but not really artist friendly.

    Thanks

Noted. I've put on a request. Maybe we can implement a new texture for this or expand the multiSubTex to serve the purpose.

I think if you add the option for using vrayScalars to the VrayMultiSubTex that would be great. The scalars could just reference the number indicated in the slot.

Yes, will add that (someone requested it in 3ds Max too).

We've expanded the MultiSubTex to work with texture switches (just like the SwitchMaterial does). This is in the nightlies from December 6 and later and will go into the next official release.
You can use any texture to drive the switch, as well as any values that you put in the switch, including animated values. You can also use user attributes that are passed to the switch to distribute the textures among many objects with the same multiSubTex applied.

will the multisubtex be viewable in the viewport at some point?

No, we haven't manage to do it for V-Ray Next and I can't really say when this will be possible.
Getting dynamic nodes to work in the viewport is tricky business, even getting some basic previews might have other implications.
I'll make a note to discuss it with the devs, though.

Thanks for info. Would it be possible to support it only for the "texture switch" mode?
That does only change the state of the texture.
