  • HairMtl3 playing nice with Maya's Viewport2.0

    In Maya 2017 Maya's default "physical" hair material in Maya works well with Viewport2.0. It would be really helpful if the Vray HairMtl3 also displayed nicely with Viewport2.0 as well. Currently it just shows dark in Viewport2.0 without any sense of highlights. Of course it renders just fine.

    It's very helpful to be able to see a rough approximation of what the rendered hair will look like before rendering. So it would be super awesome if Chaos could get this working. Same goes for the new ALhair shader Vlado is working on

    Point taken. We do have some preview for the hair material, but it doesn't really work well when it's applied to hair. We'll see if we can improve that.
    In any case, just a note: since V-Ray 3.40.02 we have better support for viewport representations of shaders and lights. It's only available in Maya 2016 and above for the new OpenGL Core profiles and viewport 2.0 (you can find the setting in Windows > settings and preferences > preferences > display).
