  • Ability to manipulate HDR like in VRED

    Hi,

I keep finding myself in situations where I REALLY need to manipulate the dome to get more accurate reflections.

Would be sweet if vray allowed for this like in Vred https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3VcTpalJNk (28 min)
    - ability to change the 'dome' into a cube or or sphere and ability to totally transform it

It seems the only 'control' one has right now is to turn on the 'ground on' option which is a good start but doesn't give enough control.

If anyone has temporary solutions I am all ears! I've tried applying the hdr to primitive geometry but have been unsuccessful.

What was the issue you were having when trying to apply your hdr to primitive geometry?

In Vred from what I understand it basically uses two domes. It has one dome (which is visually/internally hidden from viewer) that is used for diffuse lighting, then the dome you see in the viewport that is used for reflections. The rotations are linked so when you adjust the rotation of the environment projection the diffuse lighting (shadows) will adjust as well. Also note that the dome is projected using a spherical projection.

There is also a setting on vred to use accurate geo so it will light from the main dome you see adjusted in the viewport based on it's position. That would be the same as creating geomerty in maya with vray and applying the light material and making the geo emit light.

    Best,

    Richard
