  • V-Ray for MODO on Mac OS X

We have uploaded a Mac OS X build with a hardware(dongle) license in the nightly builds section.
It is under "V-Ray 3.0 for Modo nightly\mac_build". You may need to log-out\log-in to see
    the new file.

We will be uploading a Open Beta build with a software license in the coming days(or maybe weeks
as it is the beginning of the holiday season) for those that don't have dongles.

The build has been tested on Mavericks and Yosemite. There are still some issues to fix, but
it is pretty much on par with the Windows build.

    Greetings,
    Vladimir Nedev

    Thanks Vladimir
I get it running if my dongle is on a windows machine and I point my workstation to it.
As soon as I move the dongle to my mac I get the vray license error code 61.
I tried downloading the wibu key drivers from their website but still does not work.
I am thinking maybe the vray license server does not start or install properly? How can I check this?

Did you download and install the license server from here : http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/downl...license-server
I am not sure about other installations (V-Ray for Maya, Max), but the dongle license server is not included in the V-Ray for MODO installation at all.
That's true for the Windows and Mac versions.

        Hi Vladimir,
I have a dongle for V-ry for Rhino. can I use it for V-ray for Modo on OS X? If so, how do I set access to the builds. I have registered for the Modo Beta.
        regards,
        Nick Robinson

Robert, I know Chaosgroup are closed now for the holidays. Just before they closed someone sent me this mail from support. Hopefully it can help you till they are back:

A member of our support team has replied to your support request:

Please feel free to download and install the version of V-Ray license server here:
            http://download0.chaosgroup.com/priv...opard_x86.dmg/

            After installing the dongle drivers:
            http://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-software.html

plug in the dongle and start V-Ray license server from:
In Finder navigate to /Applications/ChaosGroup/VRLService/snow_leopard_x86/bin and double-click on vrlservice.app to start V-Ray license server.

I did the previous post and it seems to work except when I hit render my modo freeze and I get the spinning wheel for quite a while before it starts to render. This does not happen if I have the dongle on a windows machine and just point my mac to it. It would be interesting to know if I am doing something wrong...does anybody else have the same issue?

                You have two options.
You can wait a few days until we release the Open Beta build that has a Mac OS X version, and then request a software license from support ( no need for the dongle in this case).
Or you can write to vlado [at] chaosgroup [dot] com and support [at] chaosgroup [dot] com, and request access to the nightly builds.
In that case, support will help you reprogram your dongle to add a V-Ray 3.0 Beta license.

Hm, that a 32bit snow leopard license server.. I don't think that works under Yosemite?

I have a Mac and a PC as a quick question does network rendering work across platform? Also if it does do I need to change anything since I only wrote originally that I needed one software license, or is this not checked during the Beta?

Distributed rendering does work across different operating systems. You will need to request additional licenses though.
It can be a license for one machine with many render nodes on it, in which case you have to start the license server on that machine.
Or you can request a separate license for each machine, so you don't have to start the license server anywhere.

Yes, generally you can send any licensing requests / questions directly to them. They should always have the answers.
