  • [new build] Build 3.01.01 (with online license)

    Hi,

    this is the official thread for the new 3.01.01 open beta build.
    This new build uses our new online licensing.

    Here is the link where you can download the V-Ray for MODO 3.01.01 build:
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/downl...l?s=v-ray-modo

    The online license server can be downloaded from here:
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/downl...license-server
    The online license server is under the "V-Ray License Server 4.0 Beta (x64)" section.

    Help on how to install and setup the online license server is here:
    http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/V...line+Licensing

    Note that the new online license server is compatible with the old dongle license server.
    This means that if you have a dongle with the required licenses, the same V-Ray for MODO build can be used with
    - the dongle and the old license server
    - the dongle and the new license server
    The same build can also be used without the dongle, just online licenses.

    The online licenses are stored as part of your chaosgroup.com account. You can see them on this page : https://my.chaosgroup.com/

    If you had previously registered for the V-Ray for MODO beta, your account should contain the required licenses for V-Ray for MODO.
    New beta testers can still register from the link on this page : http://www.v-ray.com/modo/

    The 3.01.01 build requires the following licenses:
    V-Ray Render Node 3.0 Beta
    V-Ray 3.0 for Modo Beta
    Both licenses are engaged while rendering or running RT. Starting a render from modo_cl ( MODO cammand line ) requires only the render license.

    IMPORTANT : Previously DONGLE builds required only the V-Ray Render Node 3.0 Beta license, so users, that were using dongles previously, will most likely need to ask support to
    reprogram the dongle to include the V-Ray 3.0 for Modo Beta license. Or they can switch to the online license server and have the licenses added to https://my.chaosgroup.com/

    IMPORTANT : This build doesn't include a lot of the improvements to the V-Ray core for the V-Ray for 3ds Max 3.30 builds. Most of the improvements are in the nightly builds.
    Everyone can request access to the nightly builds by writing an e-mail to support@chaosgroup.com .

    Here is the change-log from the build:

    Build 3.01.01 (23.10.2015)
    =================================================

    New features:
    ===========
    (*) .vrscene import: Added a command for importing .vrscene files into MODO.
    This is an initial version, check here for a list of limitations :
    http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...import-command ;
    (*) V-Ray Materials: Added a V-Ray Override material. Can be used to switch between different
    materials for GI/reflection/refraction/shadow rays;
    (*) V-Ray Materials: Added a V-Ray Point Particle material. Can be used for more realistic
    rendering of particles from V-Ray proxies, when the particle render mode is "Points";

    Modified features:
    ===========
    (*) Camera: Added a "Guess vertical tilt" button to the "V-Ray Physical Camera" UI. Pressing this
    button will adjust the "vertical tilt" value, so vertical lines are rendered parallel;
    (*) Geometry: Added support for rendering MODO's deferred mesh using the Render Cache API (MODO 901 SP2 and later).
    The global V-Ray preference "Use Render Cache" needs to be enabled for this to work;
    (*) Render Elements: Added an option to enable deep output in the Render elements pop-up. Deep output
    is only generated, if an EXR file is specified in the "Final Color Output" of the scene;
    (*) RT: Added a global preference to fit the RT resolution inside the VFB window;
    (*) RT GPU: The "Environment material" now works in RT GPU;
    (*) RT Updates: Changing the IES file for a photometric light is now properly updated during RT;
    (*) UI: Added progress messages when rendering from modo_cl.exe. MODO shows the messages only if they
    are first enabled with "log.toConsoleRolling true";
    (*) UI: Added a "Render elements" button in the "V-Ray Toolbar". The button will pop-up a form for
    quickly selecting/creating/enabling/disabling/deleting the render output items in the scene;
    (*) V-Ray Materials: Added "Absorption distance" input to the V-Ray material's "Fog" roll-out;
    This is not a channel, but simply a convenience command to set the "Fog multiplier".
    (*) V-Ray Proxy: Added support for rendering color sets from V-Ray proxy items (vrmesh or Alembic)
    using MODO's weight map texture;
    (*) V-Ray Render Settings: Added irradiance map presets;
    (*) V-Ray Render Settings: Added buttons to save/reset the in-memory GI maps.
    Note that the "Don't delete" option for the GI map must be checked for V-Ray to remember it
    after rendering is finished;
    (*) V-Ray Render Settings: Changed default values of some of the render settings:
    - probabilistic lights changed to ON;
    - number of probabilistic lights changed to 16;
    - environment importance sampling changed to ON;
    - GI primary engine set to "Brute Force";
    - GI secondary engine set to "Light Cache";
    (*) V-Ray Render Settings: "Low thread priority" and "Max render threads" are now global preferences.
    They are no longer saved in the .lxo scene;
    (*) V-Ray Render Settings: Removed the experimental light tree and its settings;

    Bug fixes:
    ===========
    (*) Geometry: Fixed crashes, when rendering or exporting to a .vrmesh file, caused by mesh
    instances with no source mesh;
    (*) Render Elements: V-Ray for MODO will now ignore the value of the "Antialias" channel of all
    render elements except the following - masked alpha / shadow density / reflection occlusion.
    This is for performance reasons, as considering the rest of the render elements for
    antialiasing can increase render times significantly with high "max subdivs" for the Image
    Sampler;
    (*) RT: Fixed crashes when the Stop button in the VFB is pressed, while RT is not fully started;
    (*) RT GPU: Fixed bump mapping not working;
    (*) RT GPU: Fixed Fog in the V-Ray material not working. Note that textured fog is not supported;
    (*) UI VFB: Fixed the VFB state not being loaded/saved from/to the MODO scene in MODO 901.
    The state includes the settings for the color correctors, frame stamp, lens effects, etc;

    Is there any license server trouble guide?
    I installed it and can't get to the 'http://localhost:30304' side. Can't be found. I'm on OsX 10.11.5.

      One bug, that I and a user over at The Foundry forums stumbled on, was caused by the .ChaosGroup folder in your user's folder being owned by the wrong user.
      Here is how to fix it:

      If the license server refuses to start after installation (i.e. http://localhost:30304/#/online doesn't load correctly in your browser) you need to go in your user folder
      "/Users/your_user_name/" and delete (or better move to another location, so you have backup) the ".ChaosGroup" folder inside (note the dot at the beginning).
      It is hidden, so you need to enable viewing of hidden files.

        This also affects 10.10 users like myself. Using a tool such as Tinkertools will allow you to reveal the hidden .ChaosGroup folder.

            You can also use a FTP software that has access to local files (in my case Yummy FTP). There you can show all files, select the mentioned folder, press cmd-I for the file info dialog, and rename the file (remove the dot in the name). This is an more easy way without showing hidden files and restarting the computer.

              Once you get through the installation kinks, Online Licensing is a great way to go. I like it so much better than the dongle.
