Maybe I didn't get that one. Shader tree already has that feature of stacking layers and blending them. When should we use it?

V-Ray Layered Texture

It's for the Schematic, and also when you import .vrscene files created in another V-Ray integration like V-Ray for 3ds Max, that uses it internally.
Modo has the "color blend" node in the Schematic, but it has only 2 inputs, so not as convenient.
The V-Ray Layered texture also has some additional blend modes, which the shader tree stacking and the color blend node don't have.
