  • 3ds max Fall off & Composite equivalent

    Hey guys,

Fall off & Composite in 3ds max are one of the most used nodes to set up materials. For the fall off we can use modo's gradient I guess, but is there a node for composite?

How would that be converted from 3ds to modo?

That idea to bring vrscenes form 3ds max sounds really interesting to me, it is a great way to explore modo's schematic tab and learn how to set your materials into modo.

As I don't have 3ds installed yet, that's why I'm trying to get informed before an investment.

The V-Ray Layered texture you asked about in the other thread is the Composite equivalent.

You can try 3ds Max for 30 days, same thing for V-Ray for 3ds Max.
Although, I don't think the export to .vrscene in V-Ray for 3ds Max requires an actual V-Ray license of any kind. I might be wrong.

That conversion will be done automatically when importing .vrscene into modo? For both Fall off and Composite?

The Falloff will be converted to V-Ray Falloff in Modo, but the curve is missing for now, so that's not converted.
It's on the TODO list to fix it, probably one of the main reasons for material differences after import, considering how often the Falloff texture is used in 3ds Max.
Of course you can do it manually with a gradient as well.

The Composite is converted to V-Ray Layered, but only up to 6 layers. I restricted them to 6 since that's how many V-Ray GPU supports.
