  • 2sided Material Translucency-Depth

    Hello everyone,

can somebody please tell me how to increase the "depth/layers" of the Vray 2 sided material? My goal is to have a person standing under a tree and currently the leaves are not letting a lot of light through. Is there a way to increase the backlighting effect?

    all the best

What settings are you using now for the 2 sided material?

There is no way to do that. I wish we could control the diffuseness of a 2 sided shader, or add support for SSS, etc. The way most people do it on leaves is, do a standard setup and add the Hyprid SSS option to the vray-mat shader. It works fast and nice, but the amount of control is allmost none. I also tried to manipulate the settings of the vray standard material SSS attributes, but it seems they do nothing.

        Hello Robert,

thanks for the tip with the hybrid sss! Initially I thought it would render really long since Vray is not that great with transparency, but as it turns out the method isn´t slow at all. I will export two sided leaves from speedtree and see how it handles that and will conduct more testing, I´m really curious how that turns out

Oh and one correction the SSS shader in the standard material still doesn't care about the opacity, except you set it to Clip-Mapping. But clip mapping is almost same speed as stochastic.. so you good to go with clip mapping in any case.
