  • Is there a V-Ray 4 demo for Modo

    Hi,

today I downloaded and installed the V-Ray demo for Modo, but I am not able to get all the incredible stuff shown in the last videos. So I looked for the version number, but this is the old version 3.60.01.
Where can I download the brand new V-Ray demo for Modo?

Vray Next for Modo is not out yet, but hopefully we will get it soon.
Also, There is a 3.7 nightly build for Modo that includes all core fixes from Max/Maya and other packages.

Ah, okay. But I want to use the version 4. In version 3 I can only render with the slow CPU. In version 3 renderings needs 8+ hours instead of minutes.

      An other question:
For me the main reason to change from Octane to V-Ray would be VRscans. But there are only a few materials. The are no glasses, no flooring, no walls, no grass, no tiles, no liquids and so on. A good material library would be a killer feature for me.

Uhlhorn In Vray 3.6 you can still use GPU for your renders, and it is quite fast
If something is rendering slow, maybe you are doing it wrong. You can post the settings you used here and I will try to help
We will hopefully get Vray 4 soon in Modo like I said. Usually Max and Maya get their updates first, then Modo, sketchup and all other plugins
And yeah I love VRscans and I use them for every project. There are over 700 scans so far on Chaos' library and every few months they add more
Usually VRscans are for things like leather, fabrics, wood, metals ..etc but there are few scans for wood flooring and wall paint
You can customize these scans for your liking, to change the color for example or add bump/displacement/normal mapping for them
Vray also has many other things that Octane doesn't have. Features like Vray dirt mappable radius, GGX tail falloff ,hybird rendering and many other things.. Check this thread for some examples,
        https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...y-gpu-features

We have a skype Group for our Vray chat, let me know if you want to join. You will get your questions answered very quickly

        Best,

VRsans materials are black in GPU rendering (see rendering).
(Btw, is it possible to save the rendering without the rendering information?)

„… there are few scans for wood flooring and wall paint …“
I am testing the demo library. And I can not find any of this in my version of the library.

Rendered in RT CPU vs RT CUDA: You see the different?

Uhlhorn VRscans are not supported on GPU in 3.6
You will need to wait for Vray 4
They also have viewport preveiw ,triplanar mapping in Next
There are few ceramic scans and paints
And many of the wood scans could be used for flooring.
To do final rendering with GPU, go to Vray menu and choose render with Vray standalone. Then switch the renderer to RT GPU Cuda and choose noise threshold of something like .005
Also in you modo settings, you will find Vray's settings of your available GPU devices. You can use your CPU alongside your GPUs to get even more faster renders.

Hmmmmm, have Chaos Group actually confirmed that there will be a Vray Next for MODO? I haven’t read that confirmation anywhere yet?

Yeah, Vlado Nedev did confirm that he has been working on Next for Modo, but no ETA yet
We will definitely get this update

Thank You, but the standalone renderer shows the same black results.

If you set standalone to production to render on CPU, they will render fine
CPU rendering in Vray is quite fast as well

I am using 2 GTX 980TI, GPU rendering is a factor 4 (minimum) faster!

                              No, it’s not fast!
I’ve just rendered a scene file with CPU and GPU (both RT with same settings):

                              GPU (CUDA): 161.02 seconds
CPU: 5400.02 seconds (33 times longer!)

                              And the result looks different!
