Can you attach a sample lxo scene for this, and the textures ?

Yes, it works with a simple diffuse texture on a sphere with a V-Ray material (or Modo material).
If you moved the texture after exporting the .vrscene file, Lavina looks for textures in specific places.
From the docs:
"When loading a scene, if the assets (textures, proxies) are missing from their original paths or the scene folder, Project Lavina looks for them next to where the .vrscene file is in a folder that has one of the following names:
assets, maps, proxy, textures, vray_proxy
"

Ooops, I am very sorry, I was testing with a developer build with some changes that affect this.
At the moment, the various connective textures and the special UVW generator we use to implement Modo's Texture locator, are not implemented in Lavina's shading graph mode.
Basically, V-Ray for Modo is for the most part "unsupported" for now.
While implementing these textures will be relatively easy, just including them in our main shader might slow down the rest of the textures.
That's how GPU programs generally work. So, we haven't yet made the decision whether to support V-Ray for Modo or not.
It will most likely come down to how much the special Modo textures affect performance of 3ds Max scenes.
Or we might partially implement these textures using the Max/Maya nodes, which will not affect performance, but will not exactly match V-Ray CPU in Modo.
The only thing you can do for now is disable the "shading graph" option.
The result will be far from correct in some cases, but at least you will have some textures in your scene.

V-Ray for Maya should in theory work much better, yes.
However I am not sure how much testing we have done with .vrscenes from it.
