  • Displacement - negative/positive, 2D & resolution

    Hello,

Please how can I achieve a negative and positive displacement by using a single b&w image? Normally, I would use 50% gray for those areas to remain untouched, darker values for push in, brighter for pull out. If I turn on USE BOUNDS, I keep getting the gray value still pushing surfaces out, and changing Min Bound/Max Bound never sets the gray to 0 displacement. Please can someone help me with this? I have been struggling with this for a long time. (image below)

Second question - if I turn on 2D displacement, it completely eliminates all displacement effect - everything is gone. Is there anything I missed about this?

Lastly, I am getting jagged resolution, increasing Subdivision Levels does not have any effect on this. Is there any other settings? (If it is the image quality, which I doubt, is there a way to smooth this out so the displacement does not pick up the pixels?)

    Many thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Ondrej

This can be done using the displacement shift parameter.

There are some restrictions - you need to have non overlapping UVs and the mesh must have a single UV map.
You also may have to restart RT for the changes to take effect.

    You can try:
    1. Enabling V-Ray Subdivision from the V-Ray Geometry properties
    2. Unchecking Use global settings from the V-Ray Geometry properties and modifying the options that appear
You will have to restart RT for these changes to take effect.

You can find out more information about these options on their docs page : https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...try+Properties
