  • How Do I Render Alembic Files Using Modo/V-Ray?

    Hi

I have an alembic file which I have imported into Modo and would like to render this using V-Ray. I can see the splines item in the viewport, so I know they are there, but if I assign a VRay Next Hair material, or us a default material, they do not show up on the render.

Could someone please show me how to render these out?

    Many thanks!

    Hey, Pali,

Thank you for the request. In order to render an alembic file you have two options, first to assign render mask to V-Ray Proxy (you have to load the alembic with V-Ray Proxy), and when is done to add V-Ray Hair Next inside of it. The second method is to assign tags to alembic geometries (if you have that possibility of course) and next to create material/s based on tag/s. Most of the time first is preferred for me as well.

If you have more questions let us know.

    Cheers,

Hi pali_rao, just curious, what app did you export the splines from?

Hi Larry_Vasuez - I generated them from Cinema4D - I'm starting to move over from Modo, but only just learning C4D. I only have Vray on Modo too at the minute....Hope this helps!
