  • How does VRAY process the Modo Environment material?

As the title suggests I am wondering how the environment material is processed by vray.

Is it considered a hdri or some form of dome light?

Also, is this the replacement for VRAYs internal "environment" tab found in other versions?

It is considered a texture. You can use modo's shader tree to blend the environment material with other textures ( for example a gradient with input "environment altitude" ).
And yes, it replaces the environment tab in other versions of V-Ray.

If you enable "Environment importance sampling" in the V-Ray GI tab in the Render item, the environment texture will be applied to a Dome light.
Two dome lights will be created, if the env. textures for GI and reflections are not the same.

      Thank you for the info.

P.S Great job with the embree speed improvements A scene that took 2min in c4dvray takes 36sec with this version.Impressive :P

Very well then Although this is not due to Embree only (although Embree certainly helps a lot) - we've done a number of other optimizations too.

this is mainly due the vray 3 core used i assume, - which i hope Vlado will give us soon too to use (as beta)

Is there any difference with rendering speed in VRay between Intel processors and AMD Opterons ? As I know Embree is a Intel technology...

Embree will work on AMD processors, and it does run faster than the original V-Ray raycaster, but we have not tested it extensively. So far we have noticed some strange slowdowns when building the raycaster on AMD machines with a lot of cores and we probably need to look into it more.
